Women’s lacrosse freshman attacker Christina Frank, a business major, was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Rookie of the Week for all games played March 7-13, the league announced. It is the first-ever honor for Frank from the league office and the first award for any Patriot lacrosse player this season.
Frank led George Mason with four unassisted goals in the Patriots’ 8-6 win over George Washington University on March 10. Frank, who came off the bench, posted a 50 percent shooting percentage and also had a ground ball. With Mason trailing 5-4, she scored three consecutive goals, including the game-tying, go-ahead, and game-winning blasts that put Mason in front 7-5.
After giving ninth-ranked University of Maryland a scare on Wednesday with a game that the Terrapins barely won, 10-9, in nonconference action, George Mason will host no. 12 Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, March 23, at 5 p.m.
In baseball, George Mason senior Josh Morrison, majoring in government and international politics, earned the CAA Pitcher of the Week Award. This is the first time Morrison has received that honor. In the previous two weeks, senior Stacen Gant, whose major is sports management with a minor in information technology, was named Pitcher of the Week for a complete game win over Fordham University, and third baseman sophomore Chris Fournier, undecided major, was named Player of the Week after compiling game-winning RBI in Mason’s first four wins.
Mason (10-5) will next face the College of William and Mary as both teams open CAA play this weekend at Williamsburg, Va. Games are scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight, 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
