Kafatos has been working closely with Daniele Struppa, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), on a proposal for the university to create two separate colleges—a college of science to be formed by merging the CAS science departments with the School of Computational Sciences, and a college of humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. This proposal is under consideration by the Office of the Provost. Should it be approved, it is anticipated that Kafatos will maintain a leading academic/administrative role at Mason.
