In a Valentine’s Day celebration, George Mason women will present three special performances of The Vagina Monologues on Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 and 8 p.m., in the Harris Theatre. The performance, based on Eve Ensler’s Obie award-winning play, is a series of stories, based on interviews, in which women talk about the most secret part of their bodies.
The monologues explore questions often pondered, but seldom asked. Violence against women is a common thread that runs through the stories, which aim to be both hilarious and poignant. Cast members include Mason student actresses, and the show is directed by Jenn Harris of the George Mason Players.
Tickets for The Vagina Monologues are available through www.tickets.com, the George Mason Box Office at 703-993-8888, or at the door. Tickets are $5 for Mason students, $10 for Mason faculty and staff, and $25 for the general public.
All proceeds benefit the George Mason Victims of Violence Fund and Women for Women International Inc. The Victims of Violence Fund provides emergency assistance for both sexual and domestic violence victims on the Mason campuses. Women for Women International is a nonprofit agency created by Zainab Salbi, a Mason alumna, and provides support to women ravaged by war in nine countries, including Rwanda, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Congo, and Iraq.
