“Homecoming 2005: Old Skool” kicks off Monday, Feb. 14, and concludes Saturday, Feb. 19, with a block party, the men’s basketball game against Manhattan College at 4 p.m., and a fireworks display over Mason Pond following the game.

The Fairfax Campus will feature a variety of events, including a banner contest. Banners are to be painted on twin, flat sheets, and are due in the Student Activities Office, SUB I, Room 101, by Friday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. The banners will be displayed throughout the week in the Johnson Center and the winner announced at the basketball game. There will also be an office decorating competition during the week, with judging taking place between noon and 3 p.m. Thursday.

On Monday there will be a Make Your Own Valentine activity from noon to 4 p.m. in the Johnson Center Atrium. Tuesday is Mason Spirit Day, when faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to wear Mason gear. Faculty and staff who visit Ciao Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same day, wearing their Mason apparel, can participate in a raffle to win prizes.

Also on Tuesday, the Arlington Campus’ Homecoming Table will feature delicious goodies, fun freebies, and a challenging photo contest with a special “Old Skool” prize. The table will be set up from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Arlington I Atrium. The table moves to the Truland Building lobby on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., and to the Original Building, second floor lobby, on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mason’s students will be showcasing their talents in front of a live audience during the Comedy and Talent Show hosted by Christopher “Kid” Reid at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall. Friday features a wine-tasting reception in the Mason Hall Atrium from 7 to 9 p.m., and the Homecoming pageant at 8 p.m. in Harris Theatre.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the block party on Saturday. Lot L opens at 12:30 p.m. to grill out and gear up for the game. (Note that Mason’s Drug and Alcohol Policy will be enforced.) The party will last until 3:30 p.m. The entire family can enjoy family-friendly activities, including crafts, face painting, games, contests, and more. Children are encouraged to dress in Mason green and gold so they may participate in the “Best Lil’ Patriot” contest.

The Prince William Campus will also have a Make Your Own Valentine activity on Monday, as well as Old Skool novelties and giveaways on Thursday. A door-decorating contest for the university offices will start at 11 a.m. on Friday.
