Acclaimed throughout the world as the greatest of all folk dance groups, the 67-year-old Moiseyev Dance Company, honored as Russia’s official “State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance,” has captivated international audiences with its technical brilliance and exuberant evocations of traditional dances. At the heart of the group’s success is its 90-year-old visionary artistic director, choreographer, and founder, Igor Moiseyev.
The ensemble brings its singular blend of folk dance and music to George Mason’s Center for the Arts on Friday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m. The program includes a variety of folk dances from around the world as well as the U.S. premiere of two dances, the Moldavian humorous dance “Tabakeryaska” and the Korean dance “Sunchunga.”
An artistic discussion, free to ticketholders, is held 45 minutes prior to the performance on the hall’s Grand Tier. Tickets are $44, $36, and $22, and tickets for children 12 and under are half price. Charge by phone at 703-218-6500 or visit www.tickets.com.
