By next spring, a new Mason web portal for faculty, staff, and students will be released and in testing with a portion of the university’s community. Next fall, the web portal project will begin its phased rollout to the campus community.
At a DoIT Dialogue last week, Kirsten DeLashmutt, manager of portal and web development in the Technology Systems Division of the Information Technology Unit, explained that the new MyMason portal, a gateway that provides faculty, staff, and students with simple, personalized, and secure access to institutional information on the web, offers numerous advantages. These include:
- A single point of access to Banner applications, e-mail, e-learning, campus announcements, information sharing, and collaboration services
- A “one-stop shopping” method of extracting data without having to go through many levels of searching or managing multiple user login IDs and passwords
- Features such as real-time data, e-calendars, rapid campus announcements, customizable links, web e-mail, group or team bulletin boards, chat rooms, and net meetings
A PowerPoint presentation on the portal system is available online at www.gmu.edu/mymason. New developments will be posted there as they occur. For more information, e-mail DeLashmutt at email@example.com.
