Tomorrow we bid good-bye to President Alan Merten as he leaves on an educational goodwill mission throughout Asia. Over three weeks, Merten will visit more than 20 universities in three countries, including the top universities in each nation, to strengthen ties and explore new education initiatives.
Merten will meet with the presidents and vice presidents of these schools, as well as the faculty members who are working directly with a broad range of Mason faculty in many different departments and schools. Many Asian alliances have already been established, including the upcoming collaboration between the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Shanghai Opera House to produce Shanghai’s first Italian-language staging of Tosca in June 2005.
Through his meetings with educational, business, and government officials, Merten hopes to continue to demonstrate Mason’s commitment to international education while highlighting the strong international faculty and student body already existing at Mason. Merten will also meet with Mason alumni living in Asia, as well as prospective students.
