Students and organizations at George Mason will have some help for the Witch Watch this year, thanks to the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. The chamber has set aside $500 in its budget to help support the program at George Mason.
The Witch Watch, run by the Student Government, sends student volunteers into residential areas of Fairfax City to patrol the streets, ensuring that children are safe while trick-or-treating. Each volunteer wears an identifying shirt and will carry a bag of candy to pass out to trick-or-treaters. Teams of six are assigned to specific areas to patrol and are given safety tips for emergency situations.
The chamber’s contribution will go toward T-shirts, flyers, snacks, and candy. Last year was the most successful year of the program, gaining recognition for both George Mason and Sara Godlewski, former Student Government president, at a Fairfax Chamber of Commerce meeting.
The deadline for registering as a volunteer is Saturday, Oct. 16. For more information, contact Student Government at 703-993-2929.
