USC Professor Discusses Men in Sports, Sexual Assault Today

Michael Messner, author and professor of sociology at the University of Southern California, is on the Fairfax Campus today to discuss the connection between men in sports and sexual assault, using a sociological context. The event—a precursor to Turn Off the Violence Week—takes place in the Johnson Center Cinema at 4 p.m.
Messner’s most recent books are Politics of Masculinities: Men in Movements, Men’s Lives, Paradoxes of Youth and Sport, and Taking the Field: Women, Men, and Sports. His articles have appeared in Gender & Society, Theory & Society, Men and Masculinities, and Sociology of Sport Journal. He is a past president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport, and has conducted several studies on gender in sports media for the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, and for Children Now.
