George Mason is the only university in Virginia participating in DebateWatch 2004, a series of gatherings for citizens to watch and discuss the televised presidential debates.

The first meeting takes place tonight on the Fairfax Campus, and others will be held Oct. 5 and Oct. 13 in the Johnson Center, Assembly Rooms B, C, and D; and Oct. 8 in several student housing locations. All debates start at 9 p.m., but participants are invited to arrive at 8:30 p.m. for light refreshments.

After the debates are over, the group will turn off the TV. Participants will then discuss what they feel are the most important issues without being influenced by the postdebate coverage on the major networks. New Century College students and faculty members will lead the discussions, and the synopsis will be forwarded to the Commission on Presidential Debates.
