The George Mason Police Department, the University Safety Office, Fairfax Fire and Rescue, and the Virginia State Police Department will provide information and demonstrations during University Safety Day tomorrow. The event will be held in Parking Lot C from noon to 4 p.m.
George Mason police officers will provide general safety information not only for on-campus safety, but also for the safety of the surrounding community. Fairfax Fire and Rescue will give demonstrations using the fire station equipment.
The Virginia State Police will provide their Help Eliminate Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.) program, a free service that chemically etches a vehicle’s unique identification number on the glass, discouraging car thieves from targeting that vehicle. The registered owner of the car must be present for the etching.
The George Mason Police Department will also hold a demonstration of its Rape Aggression Defense program, which is offered free to university-affiliated women. This 12-hour training includes discussion on victim awareness and risk reduction. In addition, it provides realistic and dynamic hands-on training using practical techniques of self-defense.
