Board of Visitors Elects Officers

Sidney O. Dewberry, chair of The Campaign for George Mason University, has been selected as the new rector of George Mason’s Board of Visitors (BOV) for the 2004-05 term.

Dewberry, who was elected to this position at the BOV’s annual summer workshop earlier this month, is chairman of Dewberry, an award-winning architectural, engineering, planning, and surveying firm headquartered in Fairfax. He has served as a member of the university’s governing body since 1999 and also is a member and former chairman of the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees.

In related action, Leonard M. Pomata, a BOV member since 1998, was elected vice rector, and Teresa M. Klaassen, a member since 2002, was elected secretary.

Pomata, president of Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Washington Chapter, has nearly 35 years of progressive line management experience in engineering and computer system development for both government and commercial sectors.

Klaassen is founder, executive vice president, and chief cultural officer of Sunrise Senior Living. She graduated from Mason in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
