Lynn Simnowitz, applications processor in the Office of Admissions, is the Employee of the Month for August. She joined George Mason only a year ago, yet she has already distinguished herself through her outstanding customer service and professionalism, supervisors and co-workers say.
Simnowitz’s duties include processing applications for new first-year and transfer students, evaluating transfer credits, and responding to queries by e-mail from faculty, staff, and current and prospective students.
“From the first day, Mrs. Simnowitz has made extraordinary contributions,” says Frances Herrity, associate dean and director of operations for the Office of Admissions. “She is so cooperative, enthusiastic, pleasant, and courteous, and is always willing to assist everyone. Her ‘can-do’ attitude is a real asset in an office that is constantly challenged by change and interruptions.”
“When she started, I was a processor with her and worked with her during her training period. She was very intent on learning her new responsibilities and was eager to take on the challenging duties that came with her new job,” says Firzana Ahmad, associate director of operations in the Office of Admissions. “Since July of last year, when I became her immediate supervisor, she has been one of my best staff members. Lynn is also willing to try new things and processes. She goes the extra mile to help train our new employees, and her attitude in the office and among her peers is outstanding. She always maintains a professional demeanor. Her customer service is exemplary. She is always very helpful to our students, prospective students, and parents.”
“Lynn has a positive attitude and is friendly and outgoing. She is always happy to talk with any student and help them resolve the issue at hand because she deeply cares about the students, and that shines through in her work,” says Laura Cosgrove, associate director of operations in the Office of Admissions. “Lynn does a tremendous job of keeping up with a large number of applications and following them through the entire application process. She is very conscientious in her work.”
“I enjoy performing the variety of tasks involved in processing a student application,” says Simnowitz. “I take great pride in what I do. It gives me a feeling of satisfaction knowing I have helped a student successfully gain admission to the university.” She adds, “I love working at the Johnson Center. It has a vibrant atmosphere, and there is always something going on. I also enjoy the people I work with in the Admissions Office. I feel George Mason has a strong commitment to its students and has friendly employees.”
Simnowitz, who received her BS in information systems technology from the University of Maryland, says her goal for the future is to continue working at George Mason “because I love what I do. I strive to keep up with the latest innovations in admissions processing, such as our new Banner and Imaging systems. My goal is to provide the best quality service to our students and potential students.”
