“Movies under the Moon” Return to George Mason

Free movie admission, free parking, and plenty of popcorn and culinary delights will be available on George Mason’s Fairfax Campus July 16-24, as Cox Communications Inc. hosts this year’s “Movies under the Moon.” The event, which will be held next to the Physical Education Building, is designed for families, with proceeds going to Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and Special Love, which runs programs for children diagnosed with cancer.

The movies scheduled for showing on large outdoor screens are:

  • July 16—Spy Kids 3D

  • July 17—Seabiscuit

  • July 18—Jurassic Park

  • July 19—Casablanca

  • July 20—Men in Black

  • July 21—The Wizard of Oz

  • July 22—The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

  • July 23—Ghostbusters

  • July 24—Spiderman

On-site dining will include a wide variety of barbecue options from Fairfax’s Red Hot & Blue, Mexican cuisine from Baja Fresh, pizza from Domino’s, ice cream and frozen yogurt from Ben and Jerry’s and Good Humor, cotton candy, various beverages, and popcorn. Food and beverage tickets will be sold on site for $1 each. Food will be available at 6:30 p.m. each evening, with movies beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Alcohol and smoking are prohibited, and dogs are not allowed. Facilities and assistance for those with physical handicaps will be provided at the event.

In case of high winds over 15 miles per hour, lightning, or rain, the showing will be cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Notices of cancellations and additional information will be posted on the event’s web site.

“Movies under the Moon” is sponsored by 97.1 WASH-FM, Fairfax’s Red Hot & Blue, and KSI. Movie screens are provided by Deutsch Inc.
