Physical Plant employee Troy C. Wilhelm died Saturday, June 26, as the result of a motorcycle accident in North Carolina. He was 37.
Wilhelm, who joined Mason 16 years ago after serving in the U.S. Navy, was a trades technician in the Physical Plant’s preventative maintenance shop. He was originally from Frostburg, Md., where his parents still reside.
Wilhelm was known on campus for his smile and sunny disposition. “Troy was a joyful person to be around. If you were having a bad day, just seeing Troy could change that for you,” says co-worker Glenda Weston, an administrative office specialist in the Physical Plant.
“Everyone will remember Troy for his smile and easygoing attitude,” says friend Lori Petterson, an administrative and office specialist in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. “He will be greatly missed.”
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md., today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Frostburg tomorrow at noon. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Memorials may be sent to St. Michael’s School, 56 E. Main St., Frostburg, Md., 21532 or Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States, 302 Ridgefield Court, Asheville, N.C., 28806.
