Provost Peter Stearns has announced that Shirley Travis, D.W. Covard Distinguished Professor of Nursing at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, College of Health and Human Services, has been selected as the dean of the College of Nursing and Health Science (CNHS). Travis begins her deanship on Jan. 1, 2005.
“I think we can anticipate a strong contribution to the further development of CNHS,” Stearns said in announcing Travis’ appointment. He noted that Carlos Sluzki and Jeanne Sorrell will continue their respective roles as dean of health science and research and dean of nursing for the fall semester. “For this, I am most grateful,” Stearns said.
Travis received her PhD from Virginia Tech. Her teaching and research interests include long-term care, transitions in care, adult day services, and palliation in long-term care.
