The Graduate School of Education has a new name: the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). George Mason’s Board of Visitors approved the change, effective immediately, at its May 5 meeting.

The newly named academic unit comprises:

  • the Graduate School of Education

  • the Division of Undergraduate Studies in Education

  • the School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism (formerly Health, Fitness and Recreation Resources)

CEHD Dean Jeff Gorrell notes that the new name is the direct result of the expansion of academic programs and other offerings in the Graduate School of Education in recent years. “The new name better reflects the full range of academic programs and presents a more comprehensive and understandable identity to the public,” he says. “This will enable us to work more effectively to recruit and advise students, while developing programs that will better serve them.”
