Art history students Ellen Layman and Shellie Meeks clean a plaster cast of a relief from Ancient Greece. The cast was made about 1900 for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and is one of about 40 plaster casts of antiquities on long-term loan to George Mason. Working with Mathy Professor of Art History Carol Mattusch, the students plan to prepare a concrete production of the relief for outdoor installation on the Fairfax Campus. Additional casts–some of the best-known antiquities from the Mediterranean world–are expected to arrive later this month.
