At its first meeting of 2004, the Board of Visitors (BOV) approved a 2.7 percent hike in room and board rates for FY 2005, which equates to an average increase of $160 per year for resident students. The BOV met yesterday at the Prince William Campus.

In addition to attending committee meetings and hearing reports, including the news that The Campaign for George Mason University had surpassed its $110 million goal, board members toured the National Center for Biodefense and other research areas in Discovery Hall as well as the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center.

“It has been several years since a Board of Visitors meeting was held at the Prince William Campus,” says Vice President Larry Czarda. “This was a great opportunity for members to take a look at the tremendous growth in campus programs and facilities.”

Czarda presented highlights of the Prince William Campus Master Plan, which included student growth projections, planned facilities, expanded research opportunities, and the potential for partnerships with campus corporate neighbors. Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens discussed budget proposals currently before the General Assembly and the outlook for George Mason.

The BOV holds its next meeting at the Fairfax Campus on March 24.
