George Mason’s Chemistry Department is starting off the spring 2004 semester with a new name: the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. The change was approved by the Board of Visitors at its meeting last fall.
Greg Foster, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department chair, says that the change does not reflect a departmental reorganization. “We already offer two concentrations in biochemistry in our BA and BS degree programs, but because the thrust of the university is clearly going in the life sciences direction, the name change makes the role our department plays in that initiative more visible.”
