The English Language Institute will offer two English as a Second Language classes next semester on the Arlington Campus. English for Academic and Professional Success, a 15-week course from Jan. 27 to May 6, will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:10 p.m. Advanced Writing for Professional Success, a 12-week course from Jan. 26 to April 14, will take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:10 p.m.
The English course will offer step-by-step strategies for real-life situations to help participants develop essential skills for today’s global environment. Topics include improving command of grammar, improving listening and reading skills, writing effective business letters, giving professional presentations, and engaging in negotiations and debates.
The writing course is aimed at individuals who know English but have a difficult time putting the words onto paper. Topics include developing a better vocabulary, identifying and correcting errors in grammar and sentence structure, and understanding the organization and development of “American-style” writing.
Mason employees can enroll in the courses on a space available basis at a 50 percent discount from the original price. With the discount, the English class is $422.50 and the writing class $250. For more information, call (703) 993-3660 or visit ELI’s web site.
