Mason’s Davis Garners Second Preseason Basketball Honor

Senior Mark Davis of the men’s basketball team has been tabbed to the preseason Mid-Major all-America team by, a web site devoted to the promotion of mid-major conferences and schools. This is Davis’ second preseason honor, having also been named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) first team in a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches.

Davis is one of 25 players selected to the Mid-Major all-America team. Division I head coaches and assistants were involved in the selection process. Davis concluded the 2002-03 season as the Patriots’ leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points per game. He started all 28 games, leading the team in steals (54) and three-point field goals made (50), while averaging 3.9 rebounds per contest. Davis was a second-team All-CAA pick last season.

The Patriots, winners of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title in 1989, 1999, and 2001 and postseason participants in three of the last five years, finished 16-12 overall last season while going 11-7 in league play. Mason, which returns seven lettermen and three starters from last year’s squad, will be complemented by the addition of six newcomers, adding to the Patriots’ depth. George Mason is also ranked 13th in the preseason Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

The Patriots open their 2003-04 season on Friday, Nov. 21, at home against Morehead State University at 7 p.m. An exhibition game is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. against the One-On-One All Stars.
