Senior George Mason men’s tennis player Tito Ballester captured dual medallist honors Sunday after the final rounds of the Washington and Lee Invitational held in Lexington, Va. Ballester claimed his first singles collegiate tournament victory following a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal win over John Snead of James Madison University (JMU) and a 6-2, 6-0 victory against JMU’s Craig Anderson in the championship match of Flight No. 1. Ballester repeated the championship feat with his partner, sophomore Stephan Dufils, in an 8-5 win in Flight No. 1 doubles. The doubles title is the first for the duo.
In all, Ballester won six consecutive matches over the two-day tournament, which began Saturday with first round quarterfinal singles action and two rounds of doubles play. He gave up only 12 games in three singles matches en route to the championship.
The Patriots are in action again next week, Sept. 25-28, with the Mason women’s tennis team at the D.C. Metro Championships, hosted by Georgetown University.
