The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) will showcase the work of faculty, staff, and students in a CVPA Celebration today. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., George Mason faculty and staff can enjoy the CVPA festivities in the Fall for the Book tent located on the lawn near the Johnson Center. In addition, pieces by the AVT faculty are on exhibit in the Mason Hall Atrium Gallery.
A free performance highlighting each of the departments within CVPA will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. A theater monologue and a two-scene dramatic piece–both of which are student compositions–will be performed by the Department of Theater’s GMU Players. The Department of Music will tune in with a performance by the wind ensemble and a combined chorus and jazz ensemble. Video and new media from the Department of Art and Visual Technology (AVT) will feature video installation, music composition, and music performance. The Department of Dance will present a work by professor Susan Shields, and the GMU Dance Company will present a work by guest choreographer Kate Skarpetowski.
At the conclusion of the performances, attendees can enjoy salsa dancing in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall lobby and a jazz club gathering in the hall’s Grand Tier. Both after-show events will feature refreshments.
Tickets to the evening performance are free, but reservations are required. To obtain free tickets, visit the Center for the Arts box office or call (703) 993-8888.
