The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is seeking nominations for the Mary Roper Award for Outstanding Staff Service, which honors a classified staff member who has shown outstanding service in the support of the core goals of the college. The ideal candidate directly supports the mission of the department or college through his or her work with faculty, students, staff, or the greater university community.
It is named for Mary Roper, administrative assistant to the chief of staff, who worked in the Biology Department and the CAS Dean’s Office for a total of 14 years. Past winners of the award are LuAnn Miller, Public and International Affairs, in 2001; and Sarah O’Connor, Psychology, in 2002.
Nominations are being accepted until Sept. 26. Submit a letter of nomination to the Mary Roper Award Selection Committee, College Hall, C100, MS 3A3, or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include a paragraph on the candidate’s background and describe his or her contribution to the department or unit in support of the college goals.
The recipient of the Mary Roper Award for Outstanding CAS Staff Service has traditionally been honored at a luncheon during the CAS Celebration of Scholarship. Given the importance of recognizing college staff, Dean Daniele Struppa has chosen to split the two events held annually in the fall. The award will be presented at a luncheon honoring CAS staff on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall.
