The Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) will be closed this week. The office made significant progress on entering students and scholars into SEVIS when it closed June 9-13. Because getting all of George Mason’s current students into the SEVIS system is an issue of utmost importance, the OIPS decided to close for one more week.
The purpose of the closure is to allow the entire staff to focus intensively on the task of entering approximately 1,500 records into SEVIS, the new immigration tracking system, and preparing a new immigration form for each of the university’s F-1 and J-1 international students and exchange visitors. OIPS has been working on this task for several months, but the Aug. 1 compliance deadline is fast approaching.
The office will not be open to answer phone calls, answer student e-mails, handle walk-in traffic, for the pick-up or drop-off of forms, or for scheduling future appointments. Instructions about how to handle an emergency during this time will be available on both the office voicemail and front door.
