George Mason University’s Board of Visitors has selected Jessica Tiahrt as student representative and Deepa Menon as student alternate for the 2003-04 academic year.
Tiahrt, an undergraduate communication student with a minor in economics, expects to graduate in May 2004. In her three years at George Mason she has been involved with the Honors Program in General Education, Broadside newspaper, the Mason’s College Republicans, and Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. In addition to these activities, she has worked as staff assistant for the majority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, an intern for Fox News Channel’s “The Beltway Boys,” and a server and certified trainer for Ruby Tuesday’s Restaurant–all while maintaining a place on Mason’s Dean’s List in all six semesters of study.
The student representative has the option of sitting in on at least two major committees and acts as a nonvoting member.
Menon came to study at Mason’s School of Law after graduating with honors from Queen’s University with a B.S. in computing and information science and biology in 1998. She currently ranks first in her class of 257 students. She has been a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society and chair of the Alumni Social Committee, for which she was appointed vice president for the 2003-04 school year. During her first year of law school, Menon volunteered as a bailiff and served as a witness for two trial competitions held by university student organizations. She expects to graduate in May 2005.
