Each term, the School of Management (SOM) welcomes members of the business community and alumni to coach Mason seniors on final presentations for their capstone course, SOM 498. During this full-day event, held last month, students showcased their analysis of a specific industry by giving a presentation to a panel of coaches who volunteered their time and expertise.
SOM 498 allows the students to benefit from an experienced professional who offers specific advice on how to improve their speaking style and presentation skills. It is also an opportunity for coaches to network and speak with the dean and faculty members about what is new at SOM.
The course offers an examination of business models, business strategy, and competitive advantage. Students identify and assess business models from a cross-functional perspective, using all the core business functions covered in the SOM curriculum.
