George Mason junior third baseman Nick Shimer has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for baseball. The honor is the first for Shimer and is for accomplishments from April 7-13.
Shimer helped lead George Mason (20-10 overall, 7-1 in the CAA) to four victories last week. The Patriots, who have taken over first place in the CAA Colonial Division, have won nine straight games to tie the school record set in 1986 and matched in 1993.
Shimer batted .571 with six runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, and eight runs batted in while compiling a 1.214 slugging percentage last week. In Mason’s three-game sweep of CAA foe Hofstra over the weekend, he batted .700 with two doubles, two homers, and six RBI.
“Nick’s production offensively has been a huge part of our winning streak,” says Head Coach Bill Brown, who has a 591-543-5 record in his 22nd season at George Mason. “He has become the run-producing force we have needed in the middle of our batting order.”
