Eighteen university employees will be honored Wednesday with Outstanding Achievement Awards from Human Resources. The award is granted for achievement or specific accomplishments that improve processes, save time or money, or improve customer service, and result in significant benefit to the university, school, institute or department. The awards are granted twice yearly, based on nominations submitted for review by the Compensation Committee.

The following faculty and staff members are being recognized in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall at 2 p.m.: Adriane Ackley, Alumni Affairs; Bobbi Fuller, Information Services; Linda Gallagher, Fiscal Services; Marcy Glover, Office of the Provost; Renate Guilford, Office of the Provost; Roshanda Harris, Graduate School of Education; Ron Hull, Information Technology Unit (ITU); Beth Ives, Office of Sponsored Programs; Paul Koda, University Libraries; Kathryn Mangus, University Life; Joan McCall, Police Department; Gerri Kirchner Nickle, ITU; Doris Rollins, ITU; Diane Thornburg, Development Office; Mai-Huong Tran, ITU; Carolyn Westbrook, Internal Audit; David Wilder, Physical Plant; and Joann Wray, ITU.

Two other awards will also be presented at the ceremony: the Presidential Citation, a non-competitive award that recognizes individuals who perform an exceptional deed that was motivated by good citizenship or a sense of public responsibility; and the Outstanding Supervisor Award, which recognizes the individual who, among other criteria, provides a sense of vision for the department and makes employees feel actively involved in the goals of the department.

The Presidential Citation will be awarded to student Svetlana Sidilkovskaia. On January 12, 2003, Sidilkovskaia was serving as head lifeguard in the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center when a patron preparing to participate in a scuba class suffered cardiac arrest. Sidilkovskaia’s immediate response in providing first aid and subsequent use of an automated external defibrillator directly contributed to the individual’s survival.

The Outstanding Supervisor Award, sponsored by the Staff Senate, will be presented to Dan Walsch, Media Relations Office.
