The Visiting Writers series will bring nonfiction writer Tom Shroder and poet Semezdin Mehmedinovic to the Fairfax Campus this week.
Shroder will speak tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall Grand Tier III. Shroder, who is the editor of the Washington Post Magazine, has been a newspaper journalist since the 1970s, most of that time with the Washington Post. He has published three books, including Old Souls: Compelling Evidence from Children Who Remember Previous Lives.
On Wednesday, Mehmedinovic will read at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall Grand Tier III. Author of four books, he was born in Tuzla, Bosnia, in 1960. Mehmedinovic wrote his latest, Sarajevo Blues, while in Bosnia during the recent war. He remained a citizen of Sarajevo throughout the Serbian nationalists’ siege and was active in the resistance movement. In 1996, he, his wife, and their son left Bosnia and came to the U.S. as political refugees. Mehmedinovic is a translator for the Voice of America.
Sponsored by the Creative Writing Program and English Department, the events are free and open to the public. For more information, call (703) 993-1180.
