George Mason men’s basketball player Jon Larranaga has been selected to the 2003 Verizon University Division Academic All-District III Men’s Basketball team. Winners were selected by votes cast from members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Larranaga holds a 3.56 GPA in his first year of graduate school at George Mason, as he seeks a master’s degree in public administration. A 6-7 red-shirt senior forward, Larranaga graduated from Mason in May of 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in communication.
A three-time award winner of the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete honor, Larranaga has also been named to the George Mason Athletic Director’s Honor Roll six straight semesters and seven overall dating back to his freshman season of 1998-99. He has also been selected to the Dean’s List three times, and was named to the men’s basketball 2001-02 CAA All-Academic team.
District III is made up of all Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Players who are selected to their respective district teams are now eligible for the national Verizon Academic All-America team, which will be announced tomorrow.
