George Mason will be host to approximately 170 student leaders from across Virginia tomorrow when it hosts the 2003 Virginia RA Conference. It is the first time the university has hosted the event, which is sponsored by the Office of Housing and Residence Life and the Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers. “Discovering the World Within Your Community” is this year’s theme.
Students attending the conference can choose from five program tracks to follow: leadership, programming, residence life, diversity awareness, and professional development. The day begins with a welcome at 8:30 a.m. followed by breakout sessions at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. After lunch, the group attends two more breakout sessions, which range from “Not Another Dorm!” to “Making Your Program Hall a Classic.”
At 4 p.m., students get a tour of George Mason and participate in the School Swap–an activity where RAs bring paraphernalia from their universities and trade it with others. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. with the keynote address by Benson Cooke, a counselor in the Counseling Center. The day wraps up with a campuswide trivia game at 8 p.m.
