Jai Lewis Selected CAA Rookie of the Week

Freshman Jai Lewis of the men’s basketball team was selected as the Pioneer Electronics Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 29. It is the first such CAA honor for Lewis, who averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as the Patriots split its two games during the week.
The 6-7 forward scored a career-high 17 points on perfect 7-for-7 shooting and tied his career-high of six rebounds in a 55-54 win against Hartford on Dec. 23. He added two blocks and a steal in the victory. Lewis contributed four points and four rebounds in the Patriots loss to No. 2 Pittsburgh on Saturday. For the week, he shot 75 percent from the floor.
Lewis has played in all nine games this season, earning four starts, and averages 23 minutes per contest. He leads the Patriots in field goal percentage at 69.2 percent and is tied for third in rebounding average with 4.6. Lewis has scored in double figures three times this season.
George Mason completed its non-conference schedule with a 5-4 overall record, having won five of its last six contests. The Patriots began CAA play last night, hosting Delaware at the Patriot Center. They host Drexel on Saturday at 2 p.m. Comcast SportsNet in the Mid-Atlantic and Philadelphia areas as well as Fox SportsNet-New York will provide live coverage of the contest against the Dragons.
