After 30 years of service at George Mason, Ken Bumgarner, associate vice president of University Services, is retiring on Jan. 13. John Spaldo, Johnson Center and Student Unions Operations director, has been filling Bumgarner’s position on an interim basis, since last month.
“I’m going to miss Ken hugely, both personally and professionally,” says Spaldo, who was hired by Bumgarner 21 years ago.
In addition to his current responsibilities, Spaldo will oversee Parking Services, Dining Services, Housing and Residence Life, Print Services, the Bookstore, and the Child Development Center.
Marty Coyne, associate director of University Services, and Chris Chisler, director, will also take on additional responsibilities. Coyne will handle the day-to-day operations of Parking Services and serve in the Auxiliary Enterprises Budget Office. Chisler will directly handle Dining Services and continue to work closely with Housing and Residence Life.
Spaldo will serve as interim vice president through late spring or early summer, when the position will be reevaluated.
