Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden, director of the National Security Agency, will make a rare public appearance today at George Mason as part of an “open conversation” with Frank Sesno of the School of Public Policy. The university community is invited to attend the event held in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Hayden will speak and answer questions about whether individual civil liberties can be preserved while the United States remains engaged in a war on terrorism; the challenges involved in preventing a second Sept. 11 from recurring; and changing a Cold War spy organization focused on one large national adversary into a more nimble agency that attempts to address many varied government and nongovernment targets.
