Sarah Nutter, associate professor in the School of Management, has been appointed to the Northern Virginia Transportation Accountability Committee. The committee, chaired by William Coleman Jr., former U.S. secretary of transportation, will help insure that the regional funds, if approved by voters through the transportation bond referendum, will be used solely for specific transportation programs as required by law.
Gov. Mark Warner issued Executive Order 37 and created the Northern Virginia committee and a similar one for Hampton Roads. The committees will provide independent oversight and will be required to review annual audits, financial reports, and performance reports of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.
Nutter, former director of the Executive Master’s in Business Administration Program, is a professor of accounting and taxation. She earned her M.B.A and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Prior to joining the faculty at George Mason in 1995, she worked as an economist at the Internal Revenue Service.
