ODC/San Francisco’s The Velveteen Rabbit, a charming rendition of the memorable Margery Williams story, returns to the Center for the Arts tomorrow at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive early and participate in family activities prior to the curtain.
Young audience members arriving at 7 p.m. tomorrow get paper bunny ears, whiskers, and pink noses. After getting bunny makeovers, families can join K.T. Nelson, artistic director and choreographer for ODC/San Francisco, for a Family Movement Workshop on the Grand Tier to learn how to move like the Velveteen Rabbit, the fairy, and Nana.
Kids arriving at 6 p.m. on Saturday can participate in the “most-loved toy contest” by bringing their most-loved toy to the show. Winners will be announced and given prizes at the pre-show milk and cookie reception on the third floor lobby.
ODC/San Francisco produced its first workshop production of The Velveteen Rabbit in 1986. The company was interested in creating quality contemporary entertainment for family audiences. ODC embarked on a three-year project to re-choreograph and expand the production to a full-length ballet in 1989. The production as it appears now premiered in San Francisco in November 1990.
Tickets for The Velveteen Rabbit are $25, and children under 12 are admitted for half price. Charge by phone at (703) 218-6500 or visit www.tickets.com.
