George Mason and the Stargazer Foundation have announced a strategic partnership that will make the StargazerNET technology and platform available to the university for teaching and counseling, communications and information distribution, and the delivery of entrepreneurial services.

StargazerNET, created and operated by the Stargazer Foundation to provide free services to philanthropic organizations, schools, universities, and other nonprofit institutions around the world, will give the university a proven platform for distance learning, support for international entrepreneurs, and a virtual vehicle for increasing the productivity of multiple university programs.

The partnership will focus initially on the Mason Enterprise Center, which is a leading institution in the entrepreneurial domain and the incubation of small companies in the United States and abroad. The Stargazer Foundation has relocated its offices to the Mason Enterprise Center to strengthen the relationship and make more of its services and technologies available to other programs at the university.

“The partnership between George Mason University and the Stargazer Foundation will greatly add to the productivity of our programs and help the university move from its current position as a recognized leader in regional development to one of the top institutions in entrepreneurship,” says Roger Stough, associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Public Policy and director of the Mason Enterprise Center. “The knowledge-sharing and communications tools that StargazerNET has pioneered and offers to nonprofits and entrepreneurs will enhance our efforts to expand our reach.”

The Stargazer Foundation will assist the university in understanding the potential applications of StargazerNET in working with students, faculty members, and administrative personnel, and it will create enhancements to the platform that are appropriate for the university’s objectives. Through the Mason Enterprise Center, the university will provide support to assist the foundation in achieving long-term sustainability for StargazerNET.
