Hunger and Homeless Awareness Event Held Tonight

Three million Americans are currently homeless even though an estimated 30 percent of them work at least part-time. At a recent U.S. conference of mayors, a report surveying 30 major cities in the U.S. found that families with children make up 30 percent of people who are homeless. Families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
In order to highlight these problems, George Mason holding an awareness-building event on the Quad tonight from 7 p.m. to tomorrow at 7 a.m.
The event dramatizes the plight of the homeless. Cardboard Community will provide an opportunity to educate and recruit volunteers for ongoing community action. Participants sleep outside overnight and form a community, to exchange facts, ideas, and goals.
The event is sponsored by the Center for Service and Leadership, the Program Board, Alpha Phi Omega, and the Residential Student Association.
