George Mason sophomore goalkeeper John O’Hara has been selected as the men’s soccer Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week. The award is for accomplishments from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.
O’Hara had an outstanding week as he posted a pair of shutouts in two road games. He had three saves as George Mason blanked Liberty, 2-0, in Lynchburg, then he had five saves as the Patriots shut out James Madison, 3-0, to open their CAA schedule in Harrisonburg.
The pair of shutouts give O’Hara five this season and nine for his career, all coming in his last 19 games. He has allowed just five goals in 858 minutes over nine games this season for a 0.52 goals-against average (GAA) to lead the CAA and South Atlantic Region. As of Oct. 8, O’Hara was ranked sixth in the nation for GAA.
“I feel that John is one of the top young goalkeepers in the country,” says head coach Fran O’Leary. “Week in and week out, he performs at a consistently high level. I am sure he’ll be the first to acknowledge the credit for his goals-against average should be spread amongst the team, as we defend from the front.”
