CEIE Sponsors Seminar on Transportation Security

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering is sponsoring a seminar, “Deterrence, Protection and Preparation…The New Transportation Security Imperative,” today at 7:20 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Room F.
The speaker is Mortimer Downey III, principal consultant, PBConsult, and former deputy secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation. Downey chaired the National Academy of Science’s Committee on Science and Technology and served on its Countermeasures to Terrorism Transportation Panel. He will discuss the panel’s study and present its conclusions and recommendations.
Downey also served on the President’s Management Council, as a member of the Trade Promotion Coordinating Council, and as a member of the board of directors of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak). Previously, Downey was the executive director and chief financial officer of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has also worked at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Budget, and at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
