Belinda Taylor, database analyst with the Information Technology Unit (ITU), has been selected as the October Employee of the Month. Taylor is “truly a professional,” says coworker Geri Nickle. “She not only has so much talent, but also has a genuine desire to contribute to the success of our projects.”
Taylor has been the lead database analyst for the IDMS/Unix databases–Fiscal Resources Systems (FRS) and Human Resources Systems (HRS). She has supported the HRS and FRS databases for more than five years, benefiting the entire university. Taylor keeps the systems reliable, taking calls around the clock and often troubleshooting from home in the middle of the night and on weekends. “[Taylor] goes the extra mile and we really appreciate it,” says Beth Brock, assistant vice president and controller.
Taylor’s expertise extends beyond databases to systems engineering and application development. With her Oracle master’s certificate she maintains and monitors the Oracle 7.34 databases Axis, Coeus, and Travel. Taylor designed a Travel database, converted the George Mason travel system from Microsoft Access to this new Travel Oracle database, and unloaded and reloaded all data.
Taylor is, “extremely responsive and very tolerant,” says colleague Doris Rollins. “She is always willing to help and explain what needs to be done.”
