George Mason women’s volleyball freshman outside hitter Natalia Porosa and her partner, Alexis Lowes, earned first-place honors in the juvenile women division of the 2002 Canadian National Beach Championships on Aug. 25 in Wasaga Beach, Canada.
The team outlasted two days of pool play and playoffs to sweep the championship match, 2-0 (21-18, 21-18). Coming into the tournament, the duo was ranked second in the country in the 18-and-under juvenile women division.
The three-day event was the final Canadian competition in the Pro Beach Series, which has traveled across Canada, stopping in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. Wasaga Beach Championships hosted Canada’s best men and women players of competitive volleyball’s top two divisions: AA, the best in amateur play, and AAA, the best of the pros.
