Thanks to a collaboration between the School of Management and the College of Arts and Sciences, the University Writing Center now offers tutoring in Enterprise Hall, Room 040. Students seeking writing assistance should visit the Enterprise Hall satellite site for guidance on papers for class, resumes and personal statements, creative writing, learning to edit, and grammar and punctuation review. The main University Writing Center is in Robinson Hall, Room A114.
“Effective written and oral communication is a critical competency for our students’ career development,” says Jim Harvey, associate dean for undergraduate studies in the School of Management. “The satellite writing center in Enterprise Hall offers a clear signal of the School of Management’s commitment in building these skills. We are delighted to collaborate with the Writing Center staff on this facet of student career building.”
Starting today, the Enterprise Hall office will be open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students should sign up daily outside Enterprise Hall, Room 040 for appointments; School of Management students should call (703) 993-1200 to make appointments in advance.
This is the second initiative in the last year to support strong writing among School of Management students. SOM 301: Business Models–A Communications Approach is a new junior-level course that introduces students to cross-functional business disciplines and emphasizes writing and presentation as learning tools. These initiatives respond to feedback from the business community that one of the greatest needs in the workforce is employees with strong writing skills.
