An open house will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Commerce II in honor of Linda Westphal, assistant vice president of Human Resources. Westphal is retiring after 15 years of service to George Mason and is relocating to Bangor, Maine where, her husband is chancellor of the University of Maine system.
As a long-term employee, and current leader of the Human Resources Department, Westphal has made a major difference at the university. She focused on employee benefits, staff development, and recruitment of highly qualified employees in a tight labor market.
In her years with the department, she also was instrumental in implementing many state-mandated programs. Recently, she was recognized as a state leader in the implementation of the new compensation and classification plan for classified staff.
