SOS Helps Out Local Elementary Schoolers

Local elementary school students whose families cannot afford to purchase basic school supplies are seeking help from George Mason students, faculty, and staff members. Supply Our Students (SOS), a fund raising group founded with the needs of these children in mind, is asking members of the university community to buy extra school supplies for distribution to elementary schools throughout the area. All supplies will be delivered to the schools’ principals, who will distribute them to children who receive free or reduced-cost lunches.

Last year’s program helped almost 3,000 kids receive at least one school supply each, making the beginning of the school year a much brighter, less awkward time. All supplies collected by Friday, Sept. 13, can be dropped off in Mason Hall, Room D9, or mailed to MS 4C1. This year there will be a contest with a prize for the office and the student organization collecting the most supplies.
