Virginia’s 2002 higher education bond campaign officially begins Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. with a rally at the West Plaza of Northern Virginia Community College’s (NVCC) Annandale campus.
Virginia’s Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine, along with George Mason President Alan Merten, NVCC President Robert Templin, and Lord Fairfax Community College President Marilyn Beck, will be on hand to educate students, staff, and faculty members about this general obligation bond that, if approved, will result in $900 million in construction and renovation monies for each of the public colleges and universities in Virginia. Of this total, George Mason is slated to receive $79.6 million, while NVCC will receive $35 million.
Expected to help Kaine, Merten, and Templin kick off the campaign are several members of the Washington Redskins. On Sept. 5, George Mason will host a rally in the food court of the Johnson Center.
Virginians will vote on the bond on Nov. 5.
