The Elevate Series, a new high ropes element to the Hemlock Overlook Center for Outdoor Education, was completed in June and is now open to the university and the public.
The Elevate Series can stand alone or become part of a bigger challenge course program designed to facilitate team building. According to Hemlock Business Manager Martha Slover, most high ropes elements are individual events. The Elevate Series is an opportunity for a team of people to work together on and off the ground, since some team members must move objects into place on the ground for the people experiencing the high element, which is 25 feet off the ground.
According to Slover, the perceived risk of being off the ground forces teammates out of their comfort zones to complete the course. The series of obstacles and problems are designed to create a sense of team unity and mirror “real world” problems since so many members of the team must solve different pieces of the problem simultaneously.
