Howard, Cooksey Ranked Nationally in Final Baseball Stats

George Mason junior left fielder Evan Howard and freshman center fielder Matt Cooksey are each ranked nationally in the final National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I statistical rankings for the 2002 season. Howard ranked 18th in the nation with 0.45 doubles per game, while Cooksey ranked 25th with 0.62 stolen bases per contest.
Howard earned All-Colonial Athletic Association second-team and All-Virginia honorable mention honors this season. He batted .348 with 25 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 42 runs batted in while starting 56 games for the Patriots. He also set a George Mason single-season record with being hit by pitch 19 times and tied the school mark for doubles.
Cooksey batted .280 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs and 24 RBI in 55 games, including 54 starts. He led the Patriots in triples, walks (48), stolen bases (34), and on-base percentage (.432).
